The largest part of the annual report is dedicated to the console, which has been available for years. And even if the Switch is weakening due to age, the numbers are still impressive.

Nintendo announces new sales figures for the Switch

According to the traditional Japanese company, the Switch had been sold a total of 141.32 million times by March 31, 2024. For comparison: three months earlier of 139.36 million sales.

In the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2024, 15.7 million Switch consoles went over the counter. This narrowly exceeded the forecast of 15.5 million.

With this tendency, the Switch could even become one most successful console become. However, what matters here is when the Switch 2 will be brought onto the market. In the current fiscal year, Nintendo expects 13.5 million sales, which would shrink the gap to the PS2 to a few million.

For Dr. Serkan Toto, CEO of Tokyo-based gaming industry consultancy Kantan Games, is the annual forecast for a console at this stage of its life an ambitious goal. This could indicate that Nintendo has some software hits up its sleeve or will lower hardware prices.

The current Nintendo results at a glance.

Ultimately, the current 140 million sales are already a milestone that the other current consoles will fail.

Sony gave last 54.8 million PS5 sales known, but is already approaching the second half of its life cycle and expects sales to decline. Microsoft does not provide any information on Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S sales, but is said to account for around half of PS5 sales. By the end of 2023 there would be around 24 to 25 million.

Comparisons between the Switch and other consoles only make limited sense because Nintendo goes through its own cycles. It is also hardware that video gamers often purchase alongside a PS5 or Xbox console. On it suggests one of our surveys of the past few weeks.
