You don't have to wait long for the new Mad Max film Furiosa Wait, it will be in cinemas soon. Now a curious detail has become known that is both surprising and obvious – and perhaps even reminds those in the know a bit of Tom Hardy in Mad Max: Fury Road. We'll tell you what awaits you there.
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is a prequel to Mad Max: Fury Road and will be released in German cinemas on May 22, 2024. The first ratings are already coming in and promise great things. The cast includes Anya Taylor-Joy as Furiosa, Chris Hemsworth as Dementus and Tom Burke as Praetorian Jack. George Miller is once again responsible for the direction and screenplay.
Why so quiet?
Like director George Miller towards The Telegraph explained, the main character Furiosa will only speak 30 lines of dialogue in the film. This makes her one of the more silent characters in a Hollywood film. The reason for this concerns the style of the film.
Anyone who remembers Mad Max: Fury Road may remember that Tom Hardy, aka Mad Max, practically only communicates with grunts and groans in the first half of the film. Somehow fitting for the post-apocalyptic wasteland where anarchy reigns and language atrophies.
But according to director Miller, that's not the reason for Furiosa's noble secrecy. Rather, the director sees the language as having a slowing effect. A plot can be accelerated with minimally placed dialogues, which obviously suits Furiosa well. George Miller specifically said:
“The problem with dialogue is that it slows things down. Film is a medium that is often best enjoyed at high speed.”
