How huge will the Shadows game world be?
Feudal Japan will have a lot of space to explore in the new Assassin's Creed. The size of the game world is approximately the size of the Assassin's Creed Origins map, like IGN reported. But what does that mean exactly?
Well, the walkable and playable landmass of Origins was roughly 31 square miles, which around 80 quad kilometers corresponds. Still a damn abstract quantity? Okay, here's something tangible: 80 square kilometers corresponds to over 11,000 football fields. Virtual Japan is getting big, you could also say.
Not that big, compared to the real model: Japan's real land area covers around 380,000 square kilometers. Something comparable to the size of a Shadows game world, which covers around 80 square kilometers, would be the small German town of Fritzlar, which has around 88 square kilometers. But for a video game it is definitely a big world.

Ubisoft had already stated in the past that they wanted to continue offering huge game worlds. The current Assassin's Creed Mirage is practically the exception Here the game world is significantly smaller.
