Alien: Rogue Incursion: Get the diapers ready – VR title announced

Every now and then, developers try to give the legendary Alien series a breath of fresh air. The next candidate is Alien: Rogue Incursion, an upcoming VR title.

Game implementations from the Alien universe have always been a mixed bag of a huge mass of average, a few highlights like Alien: Isolation and complete flops like the terrible Alien: Colonial Marines from Gearbox. Now another game about the nasty aliens has joined the portfolio.

This is Alien: Rogue Incursion, a new VR title that is scheduled to appear in the fourth quarter of 2024 for PC VR via Steam, PS VR2 and Meta Quest 3. The game is being developed based on Survios' Unreal Engine in collaboration with 20th Century Games. The studio already has a long portfolio of VR titles such as Creed: Rise to Glory or The Walking Dead: Onslaught, so the necessary technical expertise should be there.

Alien: Rogue Incursion will, unsurprisingly in VR, be a single-player title with an independent story and is said to be designed “by Alien fans for Alien fans”. “Our team at Survios is made up of huge Alien fans and has worked long on Alien: Rogue Incursion to bring together the most technically advanced, immersive and compelling VR experiences with the best franchises,” said TQ Jefferson, Chief Product Officer at Survios, in a press release. “This completely new story encompasses all of our favorite elements from 45 years of Alien, from kinetic action and heart-pumping exploration to our fearsome, imaginative Xenomorphs that will give you goosebumps. We can't wait for fans to enjoy it this holiday season get your hands.”

Well, we're excited. As already mentioned, we've seen a lot of light and shadow in video games in the Alien story, with VR certainly showing promise as a medium, especially if it manages to recreate the claustrophobic horror of the first film. In any case, the date for the game was well chosen, because Alien: Romulus, a new film that supposedly wants to go back to the roots of the series, is coming to theaters in the summer. An Alien TV series from Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion) is also in the works.
