And what people are not interested in! Recently, we were once again surprised by Reddit users. As it turns out, on the reddit.com/r/dustypcs/ subreddit, they collect pictures and YouTube videos of very, VERY dusty PCs, game consoles, and the like.
I wonder why two thousand people (and the “dusty” subreddit has exactly so many subscribers) need to look at someone’s “computers” that have never been cleaned of dust in their lives? But they do like it! Someone even came up with a name for viewing such photos – “dust porn” (dust porn)
What do people especially like in these pictures? For example, the fact that all the dust managed to collect only on the grate:
Of course, a selection of photos in the style of “before and after cleaning” evokes a lot of emotions. After all, it’s really great – dusty, as they say, “by the tonsils” system unit turns into a clean and tidy. Triumph of Order!
And yet, most of all, r/dustypcs regulars get high from the sight of terribly dirty “systems”, on which the dust takes on the most bizarre forms. For example like here:
💚 BY TOPIC: Sounds when you turn on your computer and printer 20 years ago. Remember?
Most of the pictures are posted by IT-specialists and “technically advanced” users who know how to fix computers after complaints like “there is a lot of buzzing and heating, it constantly crashes.” So know that if you bring an “ancient” PC for repair, there is a chance that the whole world will see its insides!
For example, there is so much dust on the coolers of this laptop that they are not even completely visible! They were originally conceived to expel exhausted hot air through the laptop’s ventilation grills – and, of course, accumulated A LOT of dust over time. As a result, the computer began to overheat faster and run slower and slower. The repairman who posted this photo wrote that the laptop was brought to him for repair for a completely different reason. Having disassembled it, the guy was surprised that the laptop even works.
Sorry, dear Mac fans, but our favorite “apple” computers can also be very, very dirty. The Mac Mini in this shot is just as dusty as its far less advanced PC counterparts:

Many of the photographs show smokers’ computers. They indulge in a bad habit, of course, right next to their PCs – and, as you can see, this is not the best way to ensure a long life for your “computer”: this brown waxy material should not be where it is.
And here is a computer from a tea factory. The redditor who posted it says that it was last cleaned in 2010.
Another version of the “working” computer – this one was in the warehouse:
The ubiquitous dust even penetrates bakeries:
Of course, not only computers suffer from dust. Here is another “victim” – the old PlayStation 3:
The main competitor in the face of the Xbox 360 resists dust much better:
How do people deal with dust? Someone just buys a special can of compressed air. And someone comes up with exotic ways – for example, as in this photo, where the owner of the PC “wipes” it with a blower gun:

Another “variation on the theme” – the man took the compressor. It’s good that he put on a mask:
But what a result – after cleaning the system unit looks like new!
Congratulations! You just spent five minutes looking at pictures of someone’s dusty “computers”! How about now to get a small portion of useful information?
- Laptops should be cleaned of dust every six months. It is correct to do this on the street, through the grilles for air entry, and not for exit. You do not want to blow dust – and even with hot air – back?
- On desktop PCs, you can remove the side (usually the left) panel and blow it off with compressed air until most of the dust has flown away.
- Try not to keep your computer on the floor – especially on carpets, near the bed, and other places where dust accumulates the fastest.
