The Model Y with 600 km of range was eagerly anticipating its bonus eligibility.

6 days after the appearance of this version on Tesla configurators in other countries, the Tesla Model Y in propulsion with a large battery also appears in France. It is priced at €46,990 to benefit from the ecological bonus.

Many of our European neighbors saw the Model Y High Autonomy Propulsion appear on the Tesla configurator, from April 11, 2024. France was deprived of it until April 17. This version has just appeared starting at €46,990 on the Tesla website. This discrepancy can be explained by the administrative delays linked to the new 2024 ecological bonus system.

Despite a price of less than €47,000 on this vehicle, Tesla had to wait for the publication of a decree to be able to offer customers the ecological bonus on this version.

A special bonus rate for France

France is ultimately quite lucky in the matter. Thanks to the sales appeal generated by the €4,000 ecological bonus, this new version of the Tesla Model Y is sold less expensively than our European neighbors. Tesla has decided to position the price from €46,990. A strategic choice to offer two versions of the Model Y meeting the State bonus criteria.

In Italy, Spain or Germany, this new version is priced from €48,990. That is to say a more logical price difference (of €4,000) compared to the propulsion version, marketed from €44,990 in these countries (including France).

The match between the two finishes seems to be in favor of the new version:

However, the small battery propulsion version has probably not said its last word. The LFP battery has some advantages over the large NMC battery.

Why the eligibility for the bonus of this Model Y was delayed

Previously, it was enough for manufacturers to sell a model at a price of less than €47,000 (and for it to weigh less than 2.4 tonnes) to benefit from the ecological bonus. But the bonus eligibility rules have tightened in 2024. Manufacturers must now submit a file to Ademe several months before marketing, so that an eco-score can be calculated. If the model achieves the requested score after this period of study of the file, you must wait for the publication of a decree which mentions the eligibility of the model. Any sales that were made before the official publication would not be eligible retroactively.

This is a real headache for manufacturers. They are dependent on the publication of a decree, which generally lists several models, to be able to market an electric car eligible for the State bonus. However, there was no real doubt that this Model Y made in Germany would obtain the good eco-score. Nevertheless, the decree mentioning the Model Y LR RWD was not released until April 15. Which explains why this version of the Model Y only now appears on the French configurator.
