This fantasy hit failed miserably
Warcraft: The Beginning was released in 2016 and would lay the foundation for many more blockbuster films. The film is based on that MMORPG World of Warcraft, one of the greatest video games of all time. Fans expected an epic and faithful adaptation of the game world.

This may sound like a great success at first, but there are additional costs such as marketing. Explained in a 2016 report Hollywood Reporterthat the losses somewhere between $15 and $40 million should lie. But does this really mean the end of the Warcraft films?
Hope for new Warcraft films?
While critics tore the film apart, giving it a mere 29 percent on Rotten Tomatoes rated, fans loved the fantasy adventure and gave it a rating of 76 percent.
So there is definitely a glimmer of hope for a sequel. Even within Blizzard, people are not averse to it. The Warcraft Franchise Director John Hight explained to IGNthat he personally loved the film.
While Hight himself doesn't think it's a good idea to get into the cinema business, there are colleagues in the company who are “enthralled by the idea of becoming filmmakers.” Another glimmer of hope for another blockbuster from the Warcraft universe is the change in ownership at the development studio.
After a lot of back and forth Activision Blizzard has officially been part of Microsoft since the end of last year. With the Fallout live-action series, they have just experienced first-hand what a positive influence a good film adaptation can have.
