The successful anti-hero

Remember. Released in 2016, the first Deadpool generated more than $780 million at the box office and distinguished itself by becoming the best start for a 20th Century Fox film. No more arguments were needed for the producers to quickly start work on a sequel. When Deadpool 2 was released in 2018, it was once again a hit with more than 740 million dollars raked in. A year later, in 2019, The Walt Disney Company purchased 20th Century Fox and all associated direct rights. This same Disney which has owned Marvel for several years. It is in 2021 that the American firm announces that Deadpool will return and that this time, he will indeed be integrated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Enough to allow cameos that were not necessarily possible before, like the arrival of Wolverine, played by Hugh Jackman, in the Deadpool universe.

But before Ryan Reynolds and Disney decided to make Deadpool and Wolverine, the actor floated many other ideas that never saw the light of dayas we learn GameSpot which is based on an article byEmpire. In an interview, Reynolds said he proposed a bold idea that was almost immediately rejected.

A dead idea from dead

The actor who plays the irreverent anti-hero on screen explained that one of his first ideas was to create a film inspired by Rashōmon, a feature film by Akira Kurosawa where the same event is told through several points of view depending on the protagonists. Reynolds therefore proposed to take inspiration from this work and to tell an adventure exposed by “three completely different points of view. However, Marvel boss Kevin Feige immediately refused. He believes that this is not the most reassuring approach for Disney, and that a better pitch needs to be found to properly integrate the MCU into the world of Deadpool. This does not offend Ryan Reynolds who proceeds to propose 18 other ideas. “Ryan is a machine” recognizes Kevin Feige. Among the avenues mentioned is that of a low-budget feature film in the spirit of the indie films presented at the Sundance festival. This could have been tasty!
