Almost three months ago, players were able to discover Helldivers II, a cooperative FPS which invites you to take up arms against an army of intergalactic insects. A simple concept, but devilishly effective which meant that the game was quickly taken by storm. A few days after its release, the app managed to welcome 409,337 simultaneous players according to SteamDB. It thus became one of the most popular titles on the platform. Since then, we could have said that Helldivers 2 would be remembered as one of the successes of the year, without suspecting that it would be marred by controversy.

Helldivers 2 has captured the hearts of thousands of players! However, while everything was going well, the developers made a decision that caused controversy: the obligation to have a PSN for new PC players, starting May 6. Then, this obligation had to be extended to everyone, from May 30. This choice was not a surprise, because Sony and Arrowhead Game Studios had already mentioned it, but had postponed its integration. However, faced with the fait accompli, a wave of indignation ran through the fans. If those who already have a Playstation Network have not balked, many are those who have knocked out the FPS with poor ratings. On Steam, 62% of reviews became negative; and angry players swarm. “Including the PSN after the fact which is restrictive in several countries is shameful,” remarked one Internet user. “Sony forcing you to create a PSN account to continue playing on Steam is pathetic. It’s not just in the game that you have to fight for freedom apparently…” exclaims a second. With such controversy, the developers were forced to make rear machine.
