Nintendo – Financial report – More than 141 million Switches sold

For many companies, the start of May rhymes with financial statements, that of a fiscal year which ends on March 31. For Nintendo, this financial report was held this Tuesday, May 7, when this traditional moment of discussion on the health of the firm took place. On the program, some sales figures on the latest releases, the evolution of sales of the Switch which has finished its seventh year of marketing, but above all outlook on what has in store for us Nintendo : sales records or a new machine.

For this last quarter of the fiscal year, and first calendar quarter in 2024 (from January to March), there Nintendo Switch passed at 1.96 million units. This is a sharp drop compared to previous years, which is largely explained by the age of the console, but also by a slightly lighter release catalog in notable headlines. As for several quarters, this is the model OLED which sells the most compared to the Classic Switch and the Lite.

In terms of forecasts, the Kyoto firm claims to be able to sell 13.5 million consoles during the fiscal year which began on April 1. An objective which seems very ambitious given the last quarters of the machine which is starting to show its age. It can, however, be assumed that Nintendo must have sufficiently large cartridges to continue to give interest to his machine while a price drop cannot be excluded since the machine has not yet undergone any real reduction.

Financial assessment: game sales

No big change in the top 10 game sales on Nintendo Switch. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe continues to increase its lead with 1.39 million sales additional, placing the total at 61.97 million. We always find both Pokemon around 25 million units sold, while Tears of the Kingdom does not seem able to catch up with sales of Breath of the Wild since Link's latest adventures only found buyers near 330,000 people this trimester.

The financial statement of Nintendo also returns to titles outside the top 10, we find Super Mario Bros Wonder which reaches the 13.42 million of sales thanks to 1.48 million units sold this quarter. New releases from the universe Mario moreover, they both reached one million copies sold: 1.12 million For Mario vs. Donkey Kong And 1.22 million For Princess Peach Showtime! (in 10 days for the latter). As for other releases from last year; Pikmin 4 reached 3.34 million sales while Super Mario RPG found 3.31 million buyers.

The rest of the fiscal year 2024-2025 promises to be enigmatic to say the least. If the first trimester of the latter is rather well filled with Endless Ocean Luminous, Paper Mario and the Millennium Door or Luigi's Mansion 2the following months are currently without information, although a Nintendo Direct is planned for June and the announcement of the next machine should occur during the fiscal year.
