Next Episode of Resident Evil to be Released Soon: Leak Reveals Date!

Soon back in horror?

It was on X (formerly Twitter) that the leaker @AestheticGamer1 – better known under the nickname Dusk Golem – revealed that the ninth episode of the Resident Evil saga could be announced in the coming months, for a release potentially scheduled for January 2025. According to its sources, the title would have already inherited more than 7 years of development and was originally thought to replace Resident Evil Village. In fact, the latter was first thought to be a spin-off of the series before entering the exclusive club of the main opuses.

In other posts, the leaker explains that this next game would have inherited the “biggest budget of the series” but also that “another batch” of titles resident Evil have received the green light to enter development. Such a focus on the franchise is not very surprising on the part of Capcom, since the remake of the 4th episode has already sold more than 7 million copies when RE: Village has long since exceeded 8 million copies in circulation.

Heading for Asia

Dusk Golem had already delivered some potential information on Discord before its recent announcements. According to its sources, the next opus should this time take Southeast Asia as a backdrop. The plot would then take place in a “rural island town, inspired by Singapore”. With this announcement of a return to Asian lands, after the much-maligned Resident Evil 6, various Internet users are already theorizing about the type of enemies that the hero or heroine of the title will have to face.

If Resident Evil 7 took place in the American swamps and included in its bestiary various monsters made of biomass, Resident Evil Village took place in Eastern Europe and fully embraced its folkloric creatures, giving pride of place to vampires and other lycans. If the region of the next episode is truly South Asia, players can expect to encounter enemies inspired by the myths of the region, whether it is the Berbalang, a type of vampire that searches tombs to feed on their occupants, or even Ebu Gogo, small hominids with a ferocious appetite roaming the forests. These are just assumptions and all this information should be taken with a grain of salt.
