New Versions of Transport Company Simulators OpenTTD 14.0 and OpenLoco 24.04 Now Available

Available release OpenTTD 14.0, a free strategy game that simulates the work of a transport company in real time. The release is timed to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the project. The OpenTTD code is written in C++ and distributed by licensed under GPLv2. Installation packages prepared for Linux, Windows and macOS.

Initially, OpenTTD developed as an analogue of the commercial game Transport Tycoon Deluxe, but later it turned into a self-sufficient project, significantly ahead of the reference version of the game in terms of capabilities. In particular, the project created an alternative set of game data, new sound and graphic design, significantly expanded the capabilities of the game engine, increased the size of the maps, implemented a network game mode, and added many new game elements and models.

IN new version:

  • Added opportunity slowing down the flow of calendar time, until it stops. The change does not change the rate of movement of vehicles, the dynamics of transportation and the progress of urban development, but it affects the timing of the appearance of new vehicles, inflation and the obsolescence of transport.

  • In the ship pathfinding function appeared the ability to guide ships over long distances without using buoys. Change to allow the creation of games only using ships and eliminate the loss of ships.
  • Added vehicle distribution mode, which allows you to avoid traffic congestion on the route, thanks to automatically maintaining the distance between vehicles.

  • Secured Supports integration with social networks and platforms such as Steam, Discord and GOG Galaxy, allowing others to track when the user is playing OpenTTD.

  • Added the ability to conduct surveys among players to better understand how users play OpenTTD.
  • Proposed Built-in scalable TTF font that provides proper appearance at different zoom levels. Improved GUI rendering and resolved problems with colors.

  • Added a “Help and Manuals” button to access basic game information
  • The default gameplay settings have been revised. The changes mainly affected the inclusion of new features.
  • Cheats were renamed Sandbox, as some perceived this name in a negative context, while in OpenTTD the mode was meant to play as you like.

Additionally, you can note release OpenLoco 24.04an open engine for a transport company simulator Chris Sawyer's Locomotion. In the new version, the implementation of commands for creating buildings and roads has been rewritten in C++, the operation of map and landscape generators has been improved, and text rendering has been improved.

You can also mention the project update OpenRCT2 0.4.10developing an open implementation of a strategic game RollerCoaster Tycoon 2, which simulates the construction and management of an amusement park, and also includes infrastructure elements such as shops and cafes. For OpenLoco and OpenRCT2 to work, files with resources from the original games Chris Sawyer's Locomotion and RollerCoaster Tycoon 2 are required. Among the differences between the open versions of the engines, support for modern platforms, an improved interface, and improved quality of artificial intelligence stand out.
