Welcome to the GATE research facility! In Abiotic Factor you slip into the shoes of a scientist who is working in the secret base on projects that are certainly not discussed at the dinner table at home.

One day a catastrophe occurs. Due to a security breach, the area is suddenly infested with numerous monsters and other anomalies. And then there is the military, which suddenly also jumps into the fray.

Sounds a lot like Half-Life 1 to you? Yes, Abiotic Factor is clearly inspired by Valve's cult shooter. The title mixes the setting with a lot of survival gameplay and the result is a game that is already causing a stir on Steam.

Abiotic Factor: The survival sandbox as a homage to Half-Life 1 is now in Early Access

This is how Abiotic Factor plays

Of course, your primary goal as a survivor is not to bite the dust. To extend your life expectancy, you can build a base in the extensive research facility. What do you need for this? That's right, lots of resources!

You collect them on your forays through the abandoned offices and laboratories. By the way, you can use Abiotic Factor not only play in co-op, but also alone. One Fan-made map shows how big the game world already is in the newly launched Early Access.

Thanks to a variety of positive and negative properties different skills and perks You can specialize more and more as the game progresses, which should also increase the replay value. Are you going to be a master at handling genetically modified plants or would you rather be an excellent cook who can also dish out food with a shotgun?

The rest is survival basics: You collect, build, unlock new equipment, go deeper into the base and then the cycle starts again.

That's what Steam users say

Abiotic Factor only went into early access on May 2nd, 2024, but there are already loud reports SteamDB More than 16,000 players played at peak. This is quite an achievement for a small indie game.

Of the over 2,500 user reviews 97 percent are positive. In addition to the omnipresent inspiration of the first Half-Life, the fun base construction and the dense atmosphere are particularly praised.

The user Vidyabum writes in his review:

I love this game so far. It's like rediscovering an old favorite game with my friends, but it's…not old. […] It's a survival crafting game with a familiar twist and a nice dose of horror survival to boot. I think this game will be amazing in solo mode too. You owe it to yourself to give it a try if any of this sounds like it suits your taste.

Another game that is currently causing excitement on Steam is the newly released Hades 2. The successor to the roguelike hit is also in early access, but an average of almost 70,000 people are already roaming the underworld.

In addition, aside from such big names, a few games have recently appeared on Valve's platform that, in the opinion of our author Christian, are unfairly going under the radar. He introduces them to you in the article linked above.
