New city-building and strategy game Manor Lords is off to a spectacular start, setting new records on Steam. Recently released, it quickly captured the attention of the gaming community by becoming the most added game to the platform's wish lists even before its release, bringing together three million potential players. But that's not all.

A big medieval slap with Manor Lords

Upon launch, Manor Lords sold more than a million copies, according to developer Slavic Magic and publisher Hooded Horse. These impressive figures are accompanied by another notable record: that of the number of players connected simultaneously, which reached 170,000, an all-time high for a game of this genre, surpassing well-established titles like Civilization VI and Cities: Skylines.

This initial success is all the more remarkable because Manor Lords was developed in early access, which means that the game is still under development and substantial changes can be made to respond to player feedback. Despite this status, player reviews have been mostly positive, highlighting the quality of the simulation and the strategic depth of the game.

A big update already on the way

Slavic Magic, the studio behind this title, has already announced a series of updates which will aim to refine the game, fix bugs and adjust certain mechanics, notably trade management and archer performance. These adjustments are crucial as they aim to balance the game and improve the overall experience, including changing how quickly the artificial intelligence claims territories, which will give players more room to expand their empire.

In addition to these changes, Manor Lords plans to improve the efficiency of sawmills and resolve specific bugs, such as those affecting homeless characters. The publisher also assured that existing saves will remain compatible with future updates, which is good news for long-time invested players.

Despite its Early Access status, the development team has made it clear that the game's core structures and mechanics are already in place. Future developments will therefore mainly focus on polishing, balancing and bugfixing.
