Every year there is a new Assassin's Creed. This is as sure as Amen in church. But while we already know very well about the plot, time period and setting of Assassin's Creed Red, which will be released this year, Ubisoft has so far remained silent about the second part of the series, Codename Hexe.

Ubisoft only showed fans a short teaser video as a small appetizer as part of Ubisoft Forward in 2022. You can find the video here:

The trailer for Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe leaves many questions unanswered

It is already known that Codename Hexe is set in Central Europe in the 16th century. The plot should be embedded in the context of the real historical witch hunts of that time. The game, which is currently still in the early stages of development, will also feature a female main character.

New insider information

The US Magazine Insider gaming has now received new information directly from Ubisoft, which for the first time outlines more specifically what the game will be about and what gameplay elements we can expect in AC Hexe. And some of these details are sure to blow even old-school AC fans away!

Because according to information from Insider Gaming, the main character Elsa is said to have magical abilities. In non-public video material from Ubisoft you can see how the assassin uses her powers to take possession of a cat to throw off several pursuing soldiers.

The pursuers are said to be dressed like a Landsknecht – mercenaries typical of today's 16th century Germany. This would allow the setting of Hexe to be further narrowed down. The chase leads through the dark, cobbled streets of an unknown city.

Gaming Insider also claims to have learned that Ubisoft is planning to to introduce a fear system in Codename Witch. Ubisoft has not revealed exactly how this system will work. But already in the ninth AC part Syndicate, or its Jack the Ripper DLC, there was a mechanic that took the general fear among the population into account.

And fear and terror are really obvious terms when it comes to the subject of witch hunts. Over 40,000 people are said to have been executed in Europe at that time because of false suspicions.

What else do we know?

It has been known for a long time that Ubisoft plans to publish Hexe as part of the new Infinity platform, from which all Assassin's Creed parts will be launched in the future.

In addition, the producer of the game series, Marc-Alexis Côté, confirmed in 2022 that Hexe not a gigantic open-world RPG should be, like the last series parts Odyssey or Valhalla. Instead, expect us a shorter and more linear experience similar to the first Assassin's Creed games.

Next up, however, is Assassin's Creed Red, which sends you to Japan. Colleague Natascha tells you everything we know about it in the video above.

Are you looking forward to AC Hexe or are you worried that magic won't really fit into Assassin's Creed? What expectations do you have for a new AC game in 2024? Feel free to write it to us in the comments!
