There's a new Alien film coming this year, followed by a TV series next. And it delves deep into the past of the sci-fi franchise – so far, so known. But now there are a few new details that let us pinpoint the exact point in the timeline.

From a new report by Deadline it turns out that the series approximately 30 years before the first Alien film in 1979 and even a few years before Prometheus in 2012 plays. The TV series planned for 2025 will delve deeper into the past of the Alien series than any film before.

Does the new Alien series break the established canon?

You may be wondering to what extent the heroes and villains of the Alien series can actually have to deal with one (or more) Xenomorphs? After all, Prometheus and its sequel Covenant shed light on the creature's origins.

The person responsible for the project, Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion), gave a simple but obvious answer to this at the beginning of the year: The Alien series ignores director Ridley Scott's recent film sequels. Hawley even goes so far as to say that absolutely useless to call.

Hawley explained this in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter:

Ridley [Scott] and I talked about that and many other elements of the series. And at least in my eyes, this perfect life form – as described in the first film – is the result of millions of years of evolution, meaning that this creature has existed somewhere in the vastness of space for millions of years.

By the way, for a change, the Alien series doesn't take place in the depths of space, but on Earth. The cast includes Timothy Olyphant (The Mandalorian, Justified), Sydney Chandler (Don't Worry Darling), Alex Lather (Black Mirror, Andor), Samuel Blenkin (The Sandman) and Kit Young (Shadow and Bone).

Noah Hawley is already planning several seasons while also having a specific ending for the TV series in mind. The release of Season 1 is planned for the first half of 2025an exact date has not yet been set.
