In the course of the conversation, Miyazaki was asked about the number of endings. The game director didn't reveal a specific number, but he did point out that there are fewer endings waiting for us in “Shadow of the Erdtree” than in the main game. In “Elden Ring” we saw one of six different endings depending on our actions and decisions.

As Miyazaki pointed out, despite the fewer endings, “Shadow of the Earthtree” will have you “making significant decisions.” Whatever that ultimately means.

The DLC offers this content

In a detailed update, Bandai Namco Games and From Software provided us with further details about “Shadow of the Erdtree” at the end of February. According to those responsible, nothing less than the largest expansion in the history of the Japanese studio is waiting here.

On the one hand, there are ten new bosses in the DLC, which, like their counterparts from the main game, are supposed to demand everything from us. In addition, of course, new weapons, equipment and spells are being introduced.

According to Miyazaki, the game world of “Shadow of the Erdtree” is slightly larger than Limgrave. The game director continued: “This time we wanted to go deeper and create a denser and richer level design that brings these types of layouts together a little more seamlessly.”

The first and last add-on

A few days ago, Miyazaki made it clear once again that “Shadow of the Erdtree” will be the first and last add-on to “Elden Ring”. A decision that the game director justified, among other things, with the fact that his team wanted to accommodate all of the planned content in one large expansion.

“Elden Ring focuses on exploration and adventure in a large world. In order to be able to offer such an experience, you inevitably need a huge and extensive setting. Therefore, instead of breaking it into several parts, it was better to just make one big expansion. If they were sold separately, the freedom of exploration and sense of adventure would be limited,” said Miyazaki.

“Shadow of the Erdtree” will be released on June 21, 2024 for the PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
