Wizards of the Coast in Talks for Next Baldur’s Gate Game with Potential Character Cameos

Baldur's Gate 3 recently became the first game in history to win the major game awards The Game Awards and all GOTY awards at GDC, BAFTA, Golden Joystick Awards, and DICE Awards, but Larian Studios has previously announced that it will be developing a sequel. As attention is focused on the series, which has announced that it will not be in charge of Baldur's Gate, Wizards of the Coast has newly mentioned the future of Baldur's Gate. It has been revealed that they are already starting talks with partners with a view to developing a sequel.

This was at the BAFTA awards ceremony where “Baldur's Gate 3” won the GOTY award the other day.PC GamerThis was revealed by Eugene Evans, Senior VP of Digital Strategy and Licensing at Wizards of the Coast, in an interview with Wizards of the Coast.

Eugene Evans said he's already had conversations with a number of partners about the future of the Baldur's Gate franchise, and until he gets an answer, he won't be able to work on any of the games from Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn to Baldur's Gate 3. He emphasized that he hopes that 25 years will not pass like that. However, he explains that he will take his time to find the right partner, the right approach, and the right product for Baldur's Gate's future.

In addition, Eugene Evans said that the charming characters that Larian Studios created in “Baldur’s Gate 3” (Astarion, Shadowheart, Rayzel, Gale, Will, Karlak, Dark Urge, among others) have already become “Dungeons”. & Dragons” canon. For the sake of fans, he has said that he would like to think that they may appear in future Baldur's Gate games.

Additionally, referring to the expected community backlash (for a sequel not being developed by Larian Studios), Eugene Evans said the Dungeons & Dragons community is very passionate about Wizards of the Coast's efforts. If they don't like it, they'll be the first to let you know, explaining that this is why we love them. The bar for the new Baldur's Gate game is extremely high, and Wizards of the Coast's mission is to reach and surpass this bar.

As Eugene Evans said, the bar to overcome the masterpiece “Baldur's Gate 3” is incredibly high, but I wonder what kind of studio Wizards of the Coast has approached and is in talks with Larian Studios. Future trends, including the next work, are once again attracting a lot of attention.
