Surviving the first year with your colony – Gamosaurus

In Manor Lords, the first year is crucial for developing your colony and subsequently surviving the hazards of this world. It is during this period that you must establish the bases of your village, harvest resources, create fields, make provisions and even find the first soldiers who will defend the walls. However, you don't have to go in all directions to get there. You will find in our guide all the things to do to survive the first year on Manor Lords
without difficulty.

Analyze the land and lay the foundations

Once the game is created, the first thing to do is to pause the game. You can then take the time to open the map and zoom out to see the different regions. Take the opportunity to locate yours and see the different resources present and their location. It is important to exploit them as soon as possible, and therefore to establish your village nearby. Even more so with the crowned resources, which are intended to be more abundant.

Then start by creating paths that will lead your pilgrims to them, passing near the forests. When the roads are laid, you are ready to lay your first buildings. However, these should not be too far from where the characters are, since the ox which is used to bring back the weight resources cannot be moved. In order, you will need:

  1. Logging Camp
  2. Storehouse
  3. Granary
  4. Well
  5. Marketplace
  6. Woodcutter's Lodge

The Logging Camp should be placed as close as possible to the forest. This will facilitate access to wood, and thus exploit the resource more easily. The same logic must be applied to the Woodcutter's Lodge. For the rest, it's up to you to choose depending on how you want to develop your village. However, having the Well and Market Place as centrally as possible is an advantage. Remember to connect each building to each other via the road.

Every family must help

In Manor Lords, surviving is important, but for this each of your inhabitants must do their part. When the Lumber Camp is erected, immediately assign 2 families to it. Once the Warehouse and Attic are completed, a family must be assigned to each building. This will leave only one family to take care of the final construction, but it is more than enough.

Once all the buildings are created, we must focus on the survival of citizens and rations. To start food production, two complementary options are available. Berries and wild animals. With any luck, the two harvest points will be fairly close to each other, in which case you can build a Forager Hut. If this is not the case, favor the animal resource and the Hunting Camp. Assign the last family to it.

Now is the time to create the first houses (Burgage Plots). To do this, remove a family from Logging Camp so that they can tackle the creation of these buildings. You will only need to create 3 at this time, in order to limit your resource consumption. Take advantage of having space to allocate to these houses an extension of living space. This will make it easier to attract new families in the future.

Reach the first development point

Throughout the adventure, players will be able to allocate development points in a specific talent tree. They offer different advantages allowing you to better manage your village. The objective now is to go after the first of them. To do this, we will go to the Hitching Post and buy a second ox to speed up the collection of resources. It costs a bit of regional wealth, but it is a truly profitable investment. You will also have to build his own team.

Now that you have this new beast, it's time to get all the inhabitants to safety. Build the two missing houses, keeping them close to the well and the market square. You can take advantage of this to review your routes, improve them, or even create new ones. All of this leads you to unlocking your first development point.

Of the 21 possible improvements, 5 stand out for the start of the game. Better Deals allow you to reduce the cost of foreign imports, Deep Mining allows you to harvest an infinite number of resources on a rich point, Trapping allows you to passively earn meat and Heavy Plow sends oxen to the fields to plow more easily and over a greater distance. However, the most interesting remains Trade Logistics for the savings it brings.

Open up to the outside world

Now that the foundations are laid, we will have to welcome the new families who will arrive, but also open up to commerce. To do this, you will need to maintain your approval above 50%. You will also need empty Burgage Plots. With newcomers, you will be able to develop your village more easily, but above all develop new professions. It is therefore important to always be able to welcome new people.

However, surviving in Manor Lords requires much more than just welcoming people. You will need to create a Trading Post which will allow you to import and export resources. But above all, this allows you to gain a lot of regional wealth in a short time. Make sure to install it as close as possible to the main road, and define the resources you want to export. Of course, you have to ensure that the balance between your needs and what you export is respected. You should not starve your villagers.

With all of this, you will be able to develop more effectively, and thus turn to a new challenge: clothing. Because your citizens must be armed against the winter cold. To do this, you will have to build a Tannery which will allow you to transform your leather into different clothes. Make sure you have enough before winter, or you risk having deaths and losing approval.

Find balance and plan for your future

When all these setups are completed, the greatest difficulty is over. All you have to do is find a good balance to maintain the approval of the people, fuel them sufficiently, and develop your city. Don't hesitate to pause the game from time to time to plan your next structures and improvements. Because it is from that moment that your decisions will have the most weight.

Also consider creating a religion and dedicated monuments. This will allow you to gain a lot of approval, but also influence by improving your church. Take the time to meet the needs of your citizens and expand your kingdom. You can take advantage of the influence points saved to conquer new regions, attack other civilizations or even annex enemy territory at a great price.
