Video Game Industry News: Layoffs at Nintendo Raise Concerns for Switch 2 Launch

It's no surprise to anyone, Nintendo is also making layoffs. The video game industry is doing badly, blamed on a lack of growth according to Phil Spencer, but until things get better, many people are suffering. It is therefore the turn of Nintendo to fire staff, as reported Kotaku.

It is Nintendo of America who is affected by these layoffsthe branch across the Atlantic based in Washington is restructuring and has decided to separate from several service providers who were responsible for testing the games and hardwares before their launch. These service providers were a little different, without having a salary equivalent to real employees of Nintendo. The Japanese manufacturer specifies, however, that some providers are made redundant, but those remaining are now fully employed by Nintendo. Kotaku was unable to obtain the exact figures, but according to his information, more than 100 service providers are affected by the restructuring, most of whom now have permanent employment with Nintendo. However, the testing sector would be completely emptied. A spokesperson for the manufacturer said:

Nintendo of America (NOA) has revamped its product testing functions to drive greater global integration in game development efforts. The changes will also better align NOA with cross-regional testing procedures and operations.

These changes will result in the end of some provider assignments, as well as the creation of a significant number of new full-time employee positions. For all missions that are coming to an end, the service provider agencies, with the support of NOA, will offer severance packages and support them in their transition.

For the Contracting Associates who will be leaving us, we are extremely grateful for the significant contributions they have made to our company, and we extend our sincerest thanks for their hard work and service to Nintendo.

This change would occur because ofa “lull” in Nintendo of Americano big game first party is not being tested and no one in Washington has information on the Switch 2/Pro, which would be pushed back to early 2025. Employees also do not know if Nintendo of America will continue to test games before their launch, they had taken care of the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom recently.

Let's hope that this restructuring in the United States will not affect the quality of the next games and consoles from Nintendo. For the moment, the outings are calm, but you can find the friendly Princess Peach: Showtime! from €44.99 on Amazon, Cdiscount And there Fnac.
