When is Assassin's Creed: Witch released?

So far, Ubisoft has only confirmed that “Assassin's Creed: Hexe” will be part of the upcoming live service platform “Assassin’s Creed: Infinity” will be. The company did not reveal when the rather dark offshoot is expected to be released.

According to unconfirmed reports, “Assassin's Creed: Witch” is still in a early stage of development condition. The editors of Insider Gaming reported this and based their information on the statements of sources who are familiar with the matter. The sources are also said to have confirmed that Ubisoft is currently aiming for a release in 2026.

If this information is true, then we can assume that “Assassin's Creed: Hexe” will be released for the PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. In addition, the dark stealth title is likely to be one of the titles that has not yet been officially announced PS5 Pro be optimized.

A dark era in European history

According to various reports, “Hexe” is nothing less than the darkest “Assassin's Creed” experience to date. The creator and Ubisoft partner “BunnyTheVillain”, who has repeatedly distinguished herself with insider knowledge in the past, quotes one of the developers as saying that we should not play “Assassin's Creed: Hexe” “if we are easily afraid or frightened “.

The developer is also said to have pointed out that “Hexe” will stand out noticeably from the last series spin-offs. All that has been officially confirmed so far is that our path in “Witch” will lead to the 16th century, when thousands of women on the European continent were accused of witchcraft, tortured and then executed.

The setting may be the area of what was then the Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation.

The witch trials are also one of the topics that largely underpin the story of “Witch”. In these dark times, according to Insider Gaming, we are taking control of the witch Elsa, although not much is known about her background and motivations.

In contrast to the last “Assassin's Creed” titles, in which we had to choose between a male and a female main character, “Witch” is supposed to make this choice for us. According to unconfirmed information, Elsa is the only playable character around whom the story of the dark adventure revolves.

Is it more linear and compact this time?

The rumor mill also said that “Assassin's Creed: Hexe” will not only stand out from the main titles of recent years with its oppressive design and new gameplay elements. Furthermore, insiders reported that the developers once again decided to distance themselves from the huge role-playing worlds of “Odyssey” or “Valhalla”.

Instead, just like the one released in October 2023 “Assassin’s Creed: Mirage” be set on a more compact game world. At the same time, Insider Gaming noted that “Assassin's Creed Hexe” is significantly more linear than the last titles in the successful series.

However, this does not mean that your desire to explore the game world falls by the wayside. Quite the opposite: An open game world awaits you in “Hexe”, which tempts you with numerous optional content and secrets. However, the events in “Hexe” seem to take place in a much more compact setting.

In addition to “Hexe”, are you also interested in “Assassin's Creed Red” which takes place in Japan?

The developers at Ubisoft themselves have not yet commented on the rumors surrounding the game world. In an interview published in summer 2022, the responsible creative director Marc-Alexis Côté at least pointed out that we shouldn't expect a role-playing game like “Odyssey” or “Valhalla” in terms of gameplay.

Further confirmed Côté, that his team will be breaking new ground with the structure of “Hexe”: “Hexe will offer a different experience in terms of gameplay and the game structure. Hopefully that will become clear as we reveal more of this.”

Unfortunately, the creative director wasn't more specific about this, leaving a lot of room for speculation.

These features could provide a breath of fresh air

When it comes to basic gameplay, “Assassin's Creed: Hexe” is likely to be based on its various predecessors and shift the focus to the stealth elements that have always characterized the series. According to well-known insider Tom Henderson, the developers at Ubisoft could provide a breath of fresh air with two new features.

On the one hand, Henderson reported, citing a gameplay video that was leaked to Insider Gaming, that the protagonist Elsa has magical abilities. The witch uses these powers, among other things, to circumvent the German soldiers of the 16th century.

As an example Henderson and Insider Gaming called a scene in which Elsa takes control of a cat and uses the four-legged friend to knock over objects to distract the soldiers. According to insider sources, another new feature could be a fear system that is to some extent based on its counterpart from the “Jack the Ripper” DLC for “Assassin's Creed: Syndicate”.

How the whole thing will work in “Hexe” is currently unclear. However, it would be conceivable to have a system that simulates Elsa's fear of the Inquisition and affects her psyche and thus the gameplay itself in different ways.

The official gameplay reveal could provide clarity in this regard. Unfortunately, there is no specific date yet.
