At a depth of 30-70 meters below the surface of Mars, there is a layer of sedimentary rock, the origin of which has not yet been elucidated. Moreover, this layer is located between two layers of solidified lava. Based on the knowledge gained from studying nearby craters, scientists have determined that the upper layer of lava is about 1.7 billion years old, and the lower layer is 3.6 billion years old.
