“Helldivers 2” is largely designed for co-op battles with squads of four. Expanding the number of participating players was recently the subject of a question answered by Arrowhead Games. Players shouldn't have high hopes.
Almost three months after the launch of “Helldivers 2”, the big hype has largely disappeared. However, the co-op shooter still has a high number of players. Only on Steam Up to 200,000 simultaneous users regularly gather.

And many of these players have wishes. For example, defenders of managed democracy would like to get involved in larger groups. It's a wish that Arrowhead Games recently commented on.
Larger squads are certainly conceivable, but…
The support team from “Helldivers 2” has commented on the shooter's Discord channel about the possibility of introducing larger squads into the game. However, it would be a fairly complex undertaking, as Arrowhead Games made clear.
A player initially asked the team if they would consider the possibility of allowing larger squads to allow for more than four players participating at a time.
The game's community manager replied as follows: “I know it would take a lot of work if we ever went down this path. If it ever happens (which I am not sure it will), it is in the distant future.”

In fact, increasing squad size in “Helldivers 2” isn’t just a matter of changing a number in a specific line of code. Rather, the game is very much designed around the concept of teams of four. This is reflected not least in the fact that there are four Hellpod spots in a Super Destroyer and four spots on the podium at the end of a game. There are also plenty of balance adjustments.
Enough players for larger squads could come together sooner or later. According to a recent report, Sony is or was in the early stages of talks with Microsoft to bring the game to Xbox formats. We reported:
“Helldivers 2” was released in February 2024 for PS5 and PC. You can get the shooter in the PlayStation Store for around 40 euros. At Amazon* there is at least a two euro discount.
