Surprising Hit: Free Zombie Game draws in large player base

The most played games on Steam are usually long-running favorites like Counter-Strike 2, GTA 5 or PUBG. However, the roster of big names is also surprisingly enriched by the free zombie game Unturned.

The free zombie game Unturned has been available on Steam since July 7, 2017 and has We have built up a remarkably consistent player community over the past 7 years. Currently it can even make it into the top 15 most played games on Steam and is competing with well-known games like Elden Ring and Team Fortress 2.

Unturned: F2P zombie game is a real Steam favorite

In Unturned you play as a survivor in a world overrun by zombies. The F2P game that Offers both single player and multiplayer options, relies on Minecraft-style block graphics. You have to pursue various survival strategies, get food, seek refuge and fight against the undead to stay alive. At the same time, you should also be careful of other survivors, because not everyone is well disposed towards you.

A look at the community rating shows that Unturned is a bigger number on Steam than some might expect. The game has currently a very positive rating – with over 535,000 player votes cast (view on Steam).

Most played games on Steam: Shooters reign supreme

With a 24-hour peak of 58,962 concurrent players, Unturned is the 15th most played game on Steam, right behind Elden Ring, Team Fortress 2 and Baldur's Gate 3. Unturned has nothing to do with the astronomical player numbers of the Steam leaders Counter-Strike 2, Dota 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds and Apex Legends, but it does recent triple-A flops like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League or Skull and Bones can only dream of almost 60,000 simultaneous players.
