If you've ever played the first Hades or any rogue-lite, you know that the very principle of the game is to try to go as far as possible through a series of levels full of adversaries. However, the game is made to be difficult and death is an integral part of the gameplay loop, since you will always come back stronger in new runs, which will gradually allow you to reach the end of the adventure. Of course, some talented players decide to take this element as a challenge. Rather than embracing death and doing a lot of short runs, some manage to go very far in the adventure from the first games. If you had fun doing this in Hades IIyou have certainly already encountered Eris, the embodiment of discord.

If you are a little too efficient in your games, you risk crossing paths with Eris between two floors of the game. For example, having beaten Hecate in my first run, I met this character for the first time just before entering theOcéanos (then before entering each following floor). If you see her, you will have no choice but to speak to her before going any further, and it will automatically give you a passive effect called “Blessing of Discord”. Unfortunately, despite its name, the latter is far from being an advantage.

In fact, the Blessing of Discord is in fact a penalty that will remain active throughout the rest of your run until you die. As long as it is active, this penalty will cause you to suffer 20% additional damage from any enemy. Moreover, this percentage will increase at the end of each Combat.

You would have understood it, Eris is a real little pest made to ensure that you die one day or another. If you still manage to survive during the floor, you should reach the boss of the area with a penalty of at least 50%, a real ordeal. But then, is it possible to get rid of it? Unfortunately, The answer is no. If you crossed paths with Eris during your run, it's because the game thinks you're a little too advanced and that you should die to unlock other items.

Rest assured though, you won't come across Eris every time you return to Oceanos or the Fields of Weeping for example. Indeed, the incarnation of discord really acts as a brake on your progress, and this will disappear once you have died enough times. Be careful, each floor has its own death counter before Eris intervenes. In other words, it is not because you no longer see this character at the entrance to Océanos that you will not come across her at the beginning of the Fields of Weeping. For example, Eris disappeared from our games after the following number of deaths:

  • Océanos: 4th run (3 deaths)
  • Fields of Weeping: 8th run (7 deaths)
  • Tartar : 11th run (10 deaths)

Can we give nectar to Eris?

Even though you'll probably want to slap Eris every time you come across her, if you played the first Hades, you know thatit is very important to give at least one vial of nectar to all characters in the game. Indeed, in doing so, you will recover the famous memories associated with each, which will allow you to add bonuses to your runs. If Eris is a character with fairly ambiguous morality, she can still receive nectar and will give you a souvenir. However, you won't be able to do this right away.

To give a vial of nectar to Eris, you will have to wait for her to join your camp at the Crossroads. Warning, if you don't want to be spoiled, we advise you to stop reading here and simply continue playing until it happens to you. Eris will join your camp as you unlock upgrades and complete runs. And (final spoiler) she will even be one of the main bosses, which you can find at the end of the second floor of the Surface. In any case, from the moment she joins your camp, you can give her nectar so that she entrusts you with the Discordant bell. This memory is a bit like the Blessing of Discord, but a little more beneficial. In fact, it allows you to inflict and suffer 0.5% additional damage with each completed combat. If you're not afraid of taking some serious hits, it can be very useful for boosting your damage.
