Please note, Xbox will delete some of your images and videos from the end of May 2024 | Xbox

Remember, Microsoft announced an Xbox update at the end of last year which would put an end to unlimited storage of your images and videos recorded on your Xbox. While the company had indicated a deletion as early as January, it seems that it will begin at the end of May, when the first content will be automatically deleted.

Storage of game captures is restricted on the Xbox network

Your image captures and videos stored on Xbox will no longer remain available for much longer. Microsoft wanted to make room on its servers since the company announced that it would delete Xbox captures on the network after 90 days, or around three months.

Starting May 30, 2024, all your captures that have been recorded for 90 days will be deleted from the Xbox network. We therefore advise you to be careful to save your favorite captures quickly enough or risk seeing them disappear forever. To actually preserve your captures, several choices will be available to you:

  • Store them on your console locally (limited space)
  • Copy your images and videos to storage media
  • Send your images and videos to OneDrive, Microsoft's storage service

Xbox had initially said that this deletion would begin to be effective from January 9, 2024, but everything suggests that this has not yet been done since Xbox support is now mentioning the date of May 30, 2024.

Save your best gaming moments. Game captures on the Xbox network will be deleted after 90 days. Deletions begin on 05/30/2024. Be sure to save any captures you want to keep to OneDrive or an external hard drive.

Save your images and videos to external storage media

  • Connect the storage media to the Xbox console
  • Go to “My captures”
  • Choose the captures to save
  • Choose copy to external storage option

Back up your images and videos to OneDrive

If you have an Xbox account, you have a Microsoft account, and therefore you benefit from the OneDrive storage service. To save your captures online to OneDrive, press the Xbox button, then go to My games & apps > Apps > Captures. You will see a “Learn More” button that will get you started. You'll also be able to configure future captures to automatically save to OneDrive, so you never have to wonder if everything is saved correctly.

Please note, the default storage available on OneDrive is only 5 GB of data, which can quickly fill up with videos. To increase this online storage, you will have to pay €20 per year to access 100 GB of storage, then €69 per year for 1 TB of online storage space.
