PlayStation’s Shift in Direction: Could the PS5 be Headed to Xbox?

Sony has an iron rule: its own games only appear on the PlayStation when they are released. However, the co-op shooter Helldivers 2 is the exception and immediately enjoys great success on the PC. According to an insider, the game could also land on Xbox in the future.

PlayStation shooter on Xbox: What are the chances?

Sony is luring new gamers to the PlayStation 5 with big exclusive games. The tactic is effective, but also excludes many customers. Helldivers 2 recently proved that there is another way. The co-op shooter took the PC platform Steam by storm and hasn't let go ever since. Will this now lead to a rethink at Sony?

Nick Baker from the Xbox Era Podcast now provides an indication that something is happening at the PlayStation manufacturer. The well-known insider claims to have heard that Sony is in very early talks Helldivers 2 will also appear on Xbox consoles. Baker makes it clear here that this should in no way be taken as an announcement. A lot could still happen that would ruin the handshake between PlayStation and Xbox (Source: Xbox Era Podcast).

PS5 and Xbox: The end of exclusive games?

Helldivers 2 is developed by developer Arrowhead but distributed by Sony. Since the shooter has already been released on PS5 and PC at the same time, the console manufacturer may be here a little more experiment-friendly. Sony boss Hiroki Totoki has also already indicated that multi-platform releases can lead to more profits.

Microsoft is already further ahead and has already announced four exclusive Xbox games for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch. It would only be fair if Sony has now returned this favor with Helldivers 2. So far, games like God of War or Marvel's Spider-Man have appeared on the PC (after a long wait), but the Xbox has been consistently excluded from major gaming hits. The Xbox players would be happy. They have even started a successful petition to be able to experience the shooter on their own console.
