This week we have Paradox with us Winds of Change the new extension for Europa Universalis 4 published. In it, more than a dozen nations are being redesigned. A game check is already in progress, you can watch the release trailer directly under this news.

The expansion offers new historical content for nations as diverse as the Aztec Empire, which ruled Mexico in the 15th century, the Mughal Empire, which came from Central Asia and ruled India for 300 years, and the trading republics of Venice and the Netherlands, which both controlled the seas to bring valuable cargo home.

This historical content takes many forms, such as expanded and branching mission trees, unique government reforms that reflect the characteristics of specific nations, new decisions and events, and special mechanics that allow you to use cultural skills to gain unique bonuses.

The following new historical content is being promoted for Europa Universalis 4: Winds of Change:

  • The Great American Nations: The Aztec, Maya, and Inca all receive major updates, including an Aztec mechanic that encourages warfare and sacrifice, new ways to unite the Maya nations into a kingdom, Inca royal authority, and many other improvements and updates. These nations will also receive special content to enable an invasion of the Old World in an alternate history.
  • Major Trading Nations: Both the Netherlands and Venice receive an expanded historical look with more detailed content on the founding and expansion of the Dutch Republic, the Glorious Revolution that united the Dutch and British crowns, the Venetian Council of Ten, and the splendor of the Venetian Renaissance.
  • Gunpowder Empires: The declining Timurid Empire can either fully embrace Persian traditions or return to its roots as a horse empire as a raider, and the emerging Mughal Empire finds new ways to unite all of India under its rule. The Horde nations of Central Asia are also updated, including unique features for the Tatar, Mongol and Mughal Khanates.
  • Central Europe: Austria, Hungary and Bohemia receive revised mission trees, including the ability for Austria and Hungary to form the dual monarchy of Austria-Hungary and for Bohemia to strengthen Hussite power at the heart of the empire, while all three shape the HRR to their liking can.
  • The great malleable European nations: New ancient historical options and content for the emergence of Germany and Italy.
  • Small Orthodox Empires: Surrounded by enemies, the Black Sea kingdoms of Theodoro and Trebizond seek to prosper and expand, which could revitalize the region's Orthodox riches.
  • Hisn Kayfa and Hormuz/Oman: The small nation of Hisn Kayfa, heir to the Ayyubid dynasty, and the major Gulf trading powers of Hormuz and Oman are given unique missions to dominate the Middle East.
