How to Save Jake in “Trial by Fire” Quest in Fallout 4: Saugus Ironwork

Before we look at this Fallout 4 side quest, we have to start by launching it. To do this, you will have to go to the Finch farm. It is located north of Boston, at the point that we indicated to you on the map.

Once there, speak with Abraham and during this dialogue, the latter's wife will tell you about their son, Jake. She will then ask you to save him from the clutches of the Forge sect. Once this discussion is over, The “Trial by Fire” quest is launched!

Your next destination is simply Saugus Ironwork, which serves as HQ for the members of this sect. Eliminate the guards patrolling outside the area and on the roof and you will be able to enter this building for the rest of the quest.

Progression in Saugus Ironwork

Kill the enemies present and climb the stairs at the bottom to find a security terminal. If you have what it takes to hack it, do this and you can easily reach the second part of the building. If you can't do that, it's a bit more complicated.

Start by going up the stairs on your right, then use the central walkway to reach this second part. Once it's good, go to your left then enter the closed room. There you will meet Jake for the first time.

The problem is that the latter is on the verge of committing murder, since he threatens to throw his prisoner into the tank. Additionally, it comes with a certain Slag, who is none other than the leader of the famous Forge sect which we have been talking about since the beginning.

Save the hostage or let Jake kill him?

As you will have understood, this Saugus Ironwork quest asks you to make a choice. The most moral thing is to convince Jake not to kill the hostage by talking to him in particular about his family. Then attack Slag and Jake will even help you defeat him and his minions.

The other option is to not stop Jake from killing the hostage, then tell him that his father doesn't care about him. In this case, you will have to fight Slag and Jake in addition. Attention, this option will lead you to a much less interesting quest reward!

Regardless of your choice, after the fight against Slag, leave Saugus Ironwork and return to the Finch farm. If you ever chose to get Jake out of this mess, start first go to the small bridge which is not far away to find it before returning the quest.

Once at the Finch farm, speak with Abraham. If you killed Jake, you will only have 150 Caps as a reward. If you saved him, you will not only earn 340 Caps, but in addition to that the unique sword, “Flambeur”. Then talk to Preston Garvey to complete the quest!
