Assassin's Creed Mirage will probably go down in history as the little sibling of the great Assassin's Creeds. It is shorter, more compact, was originally planned as DLC and actually bridges the gap until the end of 2024, when the next really big series part, Codename Red, will be released.

But Mirage is also a great return to the series roots: You play a real assassin – Basim – who assassinates conspirators in early medieval Baghdad, sprints across roofs and, above all, relies on the hidden blade. Assassin's Creed Mirage got a pretty good rating in the GameStar test.

From the April 16th to 30th, 2024 you can try the game for free now to see for yourself! Ubisoft announces the free promotion via X (formerly Twitter); you need a free account with Ubisoft Connect (formerly Uplay) to play.

Why is Assassin's Creed Mirage worth it?

Since its release in fall 2023, Assassin's Creed Mirage has been significantly improved through several patches. There is no new content, but there is a much more rounded parkour system than at launch, as well as a New Game+mode, a stylish Bayek costume and other bug fixes.

The parkour fixes in particular make racing across the rooftops of Baghdad much, much more fun. If you want to experience Assassin's Creed like before, there's currently no better opportunity to do so.

However: The free trial contains the full version of the game, but you can play it as a whole only play for two hoursbefore you have to pull out your wallet. Two hours is just enough to get through the game's linear prologue and poke around a bit in the real open world. So if you want to make the most of the two hours, then hurry up with the tutorial, because the open world of Baghdad is, after all, the real star of the show.

We firmly expect that the big reveal of Codename Red, the next big Assassin's Creed, will take place no later than the Summer Game Fest in June 2024. We already know that the game takes place in Japan and that, like in Odyssey, you get two playable main characters – but above all from a technical point of view, we are of course very curious to see how this Assassin's Creed of the future looks in comparison to the now quite old Valhallas and Odysseys of this world. We will keep you up to date!
