Since the Fallout series is set on the West Coast of the United States, it also touches on some locations and factions that previously appeared in Fallout: New Vegas and the first two games in the series.
Especially in the first few days after the release, there was criticism from fans: some fears were expressed that The story about Vegas is being pushed out of the canon, which has since been refuted. Now the chief developer of New Vegas, Josh Sawyer, is also commenting on the concerns of game fans.
I understand the confusion
When the series was released, many fans addressed their concerns directly to Sawyer via Twitter. The Fallout developer has now seen all the episodes and expresses his understanding:
I understand why there may have been a little confusion and ambiguity. […] I don't think I would necessarily have drawn the same conclusions as other people. But I can understand why some people might be upset or annoyed.

Sawyer himself, however, sees the series' relationship with New Vegas as being much more relaxed. Whatever happens, he doesn't care. This has to do with his attitude towards his own work:
My attitude towards things I work on and even characters I create is that I don't own them. They were never mine. And the thing that I did is the way I did it.
The New Vegas developer believes it's not healthy for him to become too emotionally attached to things he has no control over. He only sees himself as a guest who worked on a franchise like Fallout.

What does Sawyer think of the series?
Sawyer then reveals in the interview how he personally feels about the series. Overall he seems to have liked it:
The series captures the aesthetic of Fallout 4 and Fallout 76 really well, while also feeling like it's set on the West Coast [der USA].
If you're a fan, you can see where plot elements were pulled from previous titles. And if you're new to it, these plot elements are thankfully pretty straightforward. So I think it's a good series for fans and a good series for newcomers, even though there's a lot going on. I'm also definitely excited to see where they go in the second season.
Where the second season of Fallout takes us is already known to everyone who has seen the finale of the series. It's obviously going to New Vegas, which we were already able to visit in the Fallout game of the same name. So Josh Sawyer should feel right at home, even if it's not yet clear how the story will continue here.
