What is beer for in Manor Lords?

Beyond the many primary resources necessary for the proper functioning of your colony, there are several secondary resources which ultimately allow you to develop the level of your colony and progress in order to be able to use new technologies. Beer is precisely one of these types of resources. Served in taverns, beer satisfies your settlers' need for entertainment, which allows you to improve your censives – your homes – from level 3. And if you haven't realized it yet, the Improvement of censuses is what allows you to increase the level of your colony.

First of all, you should know that there are different ways to obtain beer, whether through trade or production. The first option is the most direct, but it necessarily requires having a more or less significant source of income at your disposal. The second option turns out to be the most complex, but surely the viable one.

Buying beer is actually quite simple in Manor Lords. But once again, importing this resource represents a certain cost which will be easier to amortize after having already progressed well in a game. To buy beer, you must first have built a trading post. In the building menus, you must then go to the “commerce” tab then “goods” and finally select the beer. Establish a trade route, then select “import” from the drop-down menu to the left of the resource, and you're done.

Producing beer is necessarily less expensive than importing it, but it requires multiple constructions and requires having several families available to work at each stage of production. First, you have to harvest barley. Note that you can also buy it the same way as beer. To harvest barley, you must first build a farm, then a field. Remember to check the fertility of your land before planting a field there.

Once you have harvested barley, you need a malt house, which will transform the barley into malt. Build the malt house near your farm and fields to optimize manufacturing times. The malt house requires fuel every month, so make sure you provide enough. Once you have collected some malt, you can then begin the last step, namely making beer. Let us also point out that it is possible, like barley or beer, to buy malt directly. The game being in early access and the barley obviously having no other use than the production of beer, you are free to choose the option that suits you best.

To produce beer, you need at least a level 2 censive with land large enough to install an extension in the backyard and build a brewery. Once this improvement is selected, your censive will transform into a brewery and your affected family will then use your malt stocks to produce beer. To finally serve beer to your families, you will need to build a tavern connected to the roads that lead to your different censives and breweries. You can then check in the menu of your censives that your families' need for entertainment is satisfied.
