Spotify is arguably one of the most popular music streaming services out there. But the quality of the streams only goes up to 320 kbps.

But Spotify could soon release a new additional subscription called “Spotify Lossless” that will change that.

Why is that important? Other music services, such as Tidal or Deezer, already offer significantly better streaming quality. With a new subscription model, Spotify could also be something for HiFi fans or those of you who simply want a little better sound.

In detail: Spotify announced a new subscription back in 2021, which was then known as “Spotify Supremium”. At that time there were indications of:

  • Improved audio quality
  • Expanded access to audio books

There was hardly any more information back then.

now are Screenshots on Reddit have appeared that indicate that such a subscription will be published soon. The content shown is said to have already appeared in the user's Spotify app.

Instead of “Supremium,” however, these screenshots indicate that the subscription could be called “Lossless” instead. However, it could also be “just” a description of the function, while the subscription is still called “Supremium”. That probably remains to be seen for now.

According to some screenshots, the streaming quality can be increased from 320 kbps (128 kbps without a subscription) to up to 1,411 kbps. In some cases even up to 2117 kbps.

The subscription could also have “lossless 24-bit on selected songs.” This would offer users higher sound quality for certain titles.

The screenshots also provide information about a compatibility check, which could check whether your device and your internet connection are suitable for the increased quality.

The screenshots also contain indications that Bluetooth headphones “do not fully support lossless sound.” Instead, it is recommended to use wired headphones or suitable speakers via Spotify Connect.

Does “Lossless” already work for some users? According to the Reddit post, the options for the new subscription are already displayed, but the functions themselves are apparently not activated yet.

When is the new subscription model coming? Since the story of the HiFi subscription has been going on for around three years and there has been no official announcement, we can't say for sure yet.

But the appearance of these features in some users' app could be an indication that it won't be too long.
