Microsoft Flight Simulator: new Germany update with 7 cities | Xbox

While many players are eagerly awaiting news about Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Microsoft Flight Simulator continues to update and invites budding pilots to discover a selection of German cities.

City Update 6 is available now!

This new update, called City Update VI: Southwest Germany, focuses on Baden-Württemberg, a state in southwest Germany. 6 cities have been meticulously reworked using the latest geographic information and TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface modeling. You will indeed be able to discover or rediscover the key buildings and places of Mannheim, Heidelberg, Karlsruhe, Stuttgart, Esslinge and Kehl with new points of interest manually shaped by the studio. Even the city of Strasbourg, across the border, has been reworked.

  • Mannheim is located at the confluence of the Rhine and the Neckar, in the far north of the state. The city, the second most populous in Baden-Württemberg, is an important center of culture, education and commerce, and has 23 universities and 30 research institutes. The Mannheim region is where some of the most important inventions of the modern world developed. These include the bicycle, the modern production automobile (Benz Patent Motor Car) and the first rocket-powered aircraft (Opel RAK.1). Aerial views of Mannheim are plentiful, including the Mannheim Water Tower, the Baroque Mannheim Palace and the Fernmeldeturm Mannheim, a telecommunications tower.
  • Heidelberg is located eleven miles southeast of Mannheim, along the banks of the Neckar. It lies at the southwest end of the Odenwald mountain range, at the eastern end of the Upper Rhine plain. The city is internationally recognized as a center of education and is home to the University of Heidelberg, Germany's oldest university, founded in 1386, and one of the most famous in the world. The city is also home to several research centers, including four Max Planck Institutes. Heidelberg is also famous for the arts, especially literature. Heidelberg features several amazing architectural achievements, such as Heidelberg Castle, the Church of the Holy Spirit and the Old Heidelberg Bridge.
  • Karlsruhe is located along the Rhine, on the northern edge of the Black Forest, near the French border. It is the seat of the German Federal Constitutional Court and the Federal Court of Justice. The city, the third most populous in Baden-Württemberg, has a unique layout consisting of 32 streets radiating from a central tower that resembles a fan when viewed from above. Situated in the magnificent setting of the Black Forest and the Rhine, Karlsruhe is also home to unforgettable architectural creations. These include the Karlsruhe Palace, the Karlsruhe Botanical Garden and the Baden State Museum.
  • Stuttgart, the capital of Baden-Württemberg and the most populous city, is located near the center of Baden-Württemberg, along the Neckar River, among vast plains, low hills and forests. The city is a renowned center for the automobile industry and is home to the headquarters of Porsche, Mercedes-Benz and several other industry giants. The city is also a global center of science and academic research and has eleven universities. Stuttgart offers incredible aerial panoramas, such as the New Palace, the MHPArena and the Stuttgart TV Tower.
  • Esslingen is located seven miles south of Stuttgart, along the Neckar River. Rich in history, the city dates back at least to the Roman Empire. Esslingen began to prosper in the early Middle Ages and expanded considerably. Surrounded by forested hills and vineyards, Esslingen is one of the most picturesque towns in Germany. It is home to hundreds of historic buildings, including Esslingen Castle, the Inner Bridge and the Church of Our Lady.
  • Kehla small town in western Baden-Württemberg located on the Rhine, is located on the French-German border and neighbors the large French city of Strasbourg. With the Black Forest to the east and patches of agricultural fields to the north and south, Kehl offers a multitude of viewpoints. Strasbourg and Kehl have close historical ties. Strasbourg incorporated Kehl in 1678 and transformed it into a fortress. Strasbourg is a major international city and the headquarters of several important European institutions, including the European Parliament, the European Ombudsman of the European Union and Eurocorps. Incredible sights throughout the city, including Strasbourg Cathedral, Place Kléber and the Strasbourg Opera.
  • Friedrichshafen Airport (EDNY), also called Bodensee Airport Friedrichshafen, is an international facility located on the northeastern outskirts of the German city of Friedrichshafen, less than three kilometers inland from the northern shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee) , one of the largest lakes in Europe.

City Update 6 is available for free and can be downloaded now from the game store. It weighs 2.22 GB.
