Baldur's Gate 3 has made history: The role-playing game from Larian Studios was one of the most successful games of 2023 and won countless prizes. Most recently at the BAFTA Games Awards from the British Academy of Film and Television Arts – and thus created a record that is one The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Elden Ring was denied.
At the British awards ceremony, Baldur's Gate 3 won several wins, including Best Music, Best Narration and Best Supporting Actor. The audience award also went to the RPG hit from Belgium. In the end, Larian Studios was also able to announce its appointment as Best game of the year are happy and are the first developers to do so five major “Game of the Year” trophies achieved in one year.

Baldur's Gate 3: Five GOTY trophies were previously unmatched
This refers to the following five awards that are particularly coveted due to their popularity and the associated prestige: The Game Awards, Golden Joystick Awards, BAFTA, DICE and Game Developers Choice. In the past few months, Baldur's Gate 3 managed to win the respective “Game of the Year” awards at all of these awards – one so far unique success.
In the past only Elden Ring, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and God of War just before this one record but they were always one trophy too short:
- 2017: Zelda won four GOTY titles, but ultimately won the BAFTA for “Game of the Year”. What Remains of Edith Finch awarded, there were no five.
- 2018: God of War also won a total of four major awards, but had to settle for the Golden Joystick Awards Fortnite give up.
- 2022: From Software's open world hit Elden Ring also took home four trophies. However, at the BAFTA Awards the “Game of the Year” was up for grabs Vampire Survivors.
However, Baldur's Gate 3 couldn't be stopped and is now the first game ever to be able to combine the five big GOTY awards under one roof. What makes it particularly noteworthy is that all of the award ceremonies mentioned own voting systems use and sometimes even the community has influence. Nevertheless, the Belgian role-playing masterpiece was always able to prevail.
Elden Ring clearly dominates elsewhere
According to one, the game that has won the most “GOTY” awards is Baldur's Gate 3 Award tracker not. Overall, the fantasy adventure has been able to do so far 203 wins recorded, which means a total of 54 percent of all prizes awarded in 2023. A more than impressive number, but it is clearly behind Elden Ring.

From Software's action role-playing game was sold a whopping 435 times last year awarded the top spot – it has never been clearer. Baldur's Gate 3 will probably no longer reach this number, but significantly fewer prizes were awarded in 2023 compared to previous years.
Regardless of that huge successwhich Larian Studios had and still has with Baldur's Gate 3, The Belgian development team wants to devote itself to other topics in the future. There won't be a sequel any time soon.
