Elden Ring – Shadow of the Erdtree: The first and last DLC

From Software's head Hidetaka Miyazaki confirmed that “Shadow of the Erdtree” will be the only downloadable expansion. He then explained why the team made this decision.

The big story expansion for “Elden Ring” will come onto the market in seven weeks. The fans are already eager to immerse themselves in the intermediate land again.

As the release slowly approaches, Hidetaka Miyazaki conducted an interview with the Chinese magazine Zhihu. Here the boss of From Software made it clear that only a download expansion for the Soulsborne RPG is planned.

Shadow of the Earthtree is the first and final DLC, and we have no plans to add more content to Elden Ring.

Hidetaka Miyazaki on the upcoming expansion

One big expansion instead of several small DLCs

According to the 49-year-old Japanese, it makes more sense for this open-world game to release one large expansion instead of several small DLCs. The latter was the case with linear gaming experiences such as “Dark Souls 3”.

Miyazaki's statement: “Elden Ring focuses on exploration and adventure in a large world. In order to be able to offer such an experience, you inevitably need a huge and extensive setting. Therefore, instead of breaking it into several parts, it was better to just make one big expansion. If they were sold separately, the freedom of exploration and sense of adventure would be limited.”

“Shadow of the Erdtree” will be about From Software's largest expansion to date act. You can expect ten new bosses, as well as additional weapons and pieces of equipment.

So you won't get a second DLC, but there is a successor within the realm of possibility. According to the boss, you should “never say never,” he said in February. However, there were no plans at that time.

The sales figures for “Elden Ring” definitely speak for themselves: Over 23 million units have now been sold.

The DLC costs 49.99 euros and appears like the main game for PlayStation, Xbox and PC. Particularly passionate fans have the opportunity to get one 250 euro collector's edition to buy. Newcomers can buy the SOTE Edition for 79.99 euros.
