Leakers have uncovered new supposed information about the Nintendo Switch 2. Like, among other things Tweaktown writes, according to Moore's Law Is Dead the console should have much more power in docked mode than previously assumed.

The source speaks of up to 4 TFLOPs. For comparison: The first Switch achieved 0.4 TFLOPs.

Even if the TFLOPs can only be meaningfully compared within the same architecture or chip generation, the numbers give an indication of how big the jump in performance could be.

The Switch 2 is said to have an “incredibly low” clock speed in handheld mode.

Why this is important: Even if they are only rumors so far, the 4 TFLOPs are still an announcement.

What is considered secure so far:

  • The Switch is said to have a new Tegra SoC.
  • The graphics processor is said to be largely based on NVIDIA's Ampere GPU.
  • The chip is said to have some of the characteristics of the current Ada Lovelace generation.

A combination of two architectures sounds a bit strange. Without more detailed information, it is therefore impossible to say how plausible this is.

The Switch 2 will reportedly be significantly downclocked in handheld mode. In his Podcast Moore's Law Is Dead speaks of “significantly less than 800Mhz” and refers to his unnamed sources.

Ray tracing could also be possible in docked mode, at least that's what Tweak Town believes. They cite NVIDIA DLSS as proof of this.

In our opinion, the implementation of Nvidia's scaling technology does not prove that the Switch 2 can also do ray tracing – regardless of whether it is docked or not.

Nintendo Switch 2 has probably already been shown to developers – blind

Like the Spanish side Vandal reported that unknown third-party manufacturers had an appointment with Nintendo regarding the Switch 2.

The meeting was probably very strangebecause the developers present were allowed to touch the successor to the Switch, but not see it.

The console was in a black box.

The still unconfirmed details from the appointment:

  • The Switch 2 is larger than the Switch OLED; but not as big as the Steam Deck.
  • The Switch 2 probably has magnetic Joy-Cons.

Please note: Nintendo continues to keep a low profile about the console, which is why the rumors should be treated with caution.

What do you think about the rumors about Nintendo's new console? Do you think there's something to that? Feel free to write your thoughts and opinions in the comments.
