IrfanView 4.65 now with dark mode [Update: 4.66 hinterher]

[Update 20.12.2023 ]: Quickly informed without a new post: IrfanView 4.66 has been released as a correction version. Three fixes have been made affecting network paths, text alignment and again the SVG plugin. More on this below. (Thanks to Timo99).

[Original 9.12.2023]: A new update to version 4.65 is available for the image viewer IrfanView. Some plugins have also been updated. So don't forget to replace these too. A new function has been added under Options -> Settings -> View. Dark mode can now be activated there.

A different time can now be set for the slide show for each selected file. And text rotation (90 degrees) for vertical text has now been integrated into the Insert Text dialog. The JP2 plugin loading error has been corrected (CVE-2023-26974). This bug was present since version 4.60. But there are other improvements.

  • “Paste into selection”: Second paste (CTRL+V) also takes over the image
  • New hotkey after “Insert into selection”: Shift + click within the selection: The inserted image is adopted and the selection is retained
  • New Edit menu: Apply image effects to inverted selection (unselected area)
  • New option in Properties->Edit: Set custom filename for the inserted image
  • Option to read XMP data in IPTC dialog
  • New histogram effects in the effects browser dialog
  • Improved support for tabs in text in the Insert Text dialog box (CTRL + Tab)
  • New plugin for the AVIF format
  • The Replace File dialog displays a preview of both images
  • The fine rotation dialog can be resized
  • New in the Fine Rotation dialog: Draw a straight line to rotate
  • The histogram dialog can be resized (local dark mode with right button)
  • Slideshow/Automatic mode pauses the system while it is running
  • Command line: “/append” inserts all pages from the input file (if the “/page” option is not used)
  • Fixed an error loading the SVG plugin
  • Fixes IrfanView 4.66
  • The issues with network paths in the Save As dialog have been corrected.
  • Fixed text alignment in Insert Text dialog (Selection/Canvas)
  • Fixed bug when loading SVG plugins
