Spoiler Warning

“Hydlide II: Shine of Darkness” is a role-playing game developed by the Japanese company T&E Soft and originally released in 1985 for the PC-8801. It is the sequel to the game “Hydlide”, which was one of the first role-playing games to use real-time side-scrolling graphics. The gameplay is real-time, which was quite innovative for the time.

In “Hydlide II: Shine of Darkness,” players take on the role of Jim, a courageous hero tasked with saving a princess named Anne, who has been kidnapped by an evil dragon. The game takes place in a fantasy world filled with monsters, magic and mysteries. Jim's quest begins when Princess Anne is kidnapped by a dragon and imprisoned in a tower. Jim must then explore dangerous dungeons, fight monsters and solve puzzles to progress through the game.

As Jim progresses through the game, he discovers the existence of a powerful magical crystal that has the power to defeat the dragon and save Princess Anne. This crystal is hidden in a deep dungeon and protected by powerful spells. Towards the end of the game, Jim manages to find and collect the magic crystal. He then uses the power of the crystal to defeat the evil dragon and save Princess Anne. After defeating the dragon, Jim is rewarded with the princess's gratitude and the respect of the entire kingdom.

A final twist reveals that the dragon wasn't really the real enemy. In reality, an evil wizard was behind Princess Anne's kidnapping and had manipulated the dragon to accomplish his dark designs. Jim must then face the sorcerer in a final battle to restore peace in the kingdom.
