One last abandoned film

It's been several years now since Quentin Tarantino presented his career plan and announced that he wanted to direct ten films, and not one more. A desire which would allow him to stop at the right moment in his opinion and which therefore implies that his next film will be the last. In fact, this final project is being watched by the press and fans.

Until now, we thought that the famous filmmaker would end his career by directing The Movie Critic, a film set in the 70s which was to feature a film critic working for a pornographic magazine. But a few days ago, The Hollywood Reporter reported that this project was simply abandoned by the director. And the media has just revealed more information regarding this aborted project.

Too much pressure?

Last film obliges, Quentin Tarantino would have worked hard on The Movie Critic, but it would ultimately be lost in the writing process and come up with new, more interesting ideas. As reported The Hollywood Reporterthe filmmaker would have considered numerous iterations of his script, before resigning himself to abandoning the project.“I don't remember seeing him rewrite a project so many times or push back a shooting date when he had a film in mind” an associate of the director’s agency reportedly said. But it was also the direction that the script was taking that would ultimately have pushed the director to review his plans.

We thus learn that The Movie Critic could have taken the form of a meta story, invoking the protagonists of Quentin Tarantino's previous films. You should know that in the universe imagined by the filmmaker over his entire filmography, we distinguish two types of films. A first, which forms the reality of Tarantino's universe, and a second, which exists as films in this same universe. Films within films in short, which could therefore potentially have returned with The Movie Critic. However, Quentin Tarantino would ultimately not have managed to exploit this idea in the most convincing way possible.

In addition, we also learn that the character of Cliff Booth, played by Brad Pitt in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, should have come back here. He could have faced Tom Cruise, who insistently returns among the names considered to film with Tarantino. But ultimately, the ambitions of the filmmaker, who is despite everything fully supported by Sony Pictures, got the better of this project which will never see the light of day. We will therefore have to wait longer before learning the true nature of QT's tenth and final feature film.
