It's now been a few days since Boy Kills World was released in cinemas across the Atlantic: the story, it is that of a boy who, after being left for dead, goes to avenge his murdered family. How ? By becoming a real killing machine once an adult, by surrounding yourself with the right people, but also by overcoming certain obstacles like the fact that he himself is… deaf and mute.
An excellent excuse for fighting, and it just so happens that Boy Kills World has a whole host of them, bathed in a delirious tone and often full of black humor. At the head of the bill and in the shoes of Boy, the protagonist, we find Bill Skarsgård, known for having notably lent his features to the terrifying clown in It. At his side, Famke Janssen (Jean in the X-Men saga) or even Jessica Rothe (La La Land): the trailer can be viewed in our video player, at the start of the article.
A look of John Wick?
For the moment, many people – particularly in the specialized press – to compare Boy Kills World to the John Wick saga. This is the case of GamesRadar+, which directly asked director Moritz Mohr what he thought about it. And for now, he seems honored, but also not 100% in agreement:
To some extent it's an honor because these films are simply incredible. I still think we have a slightly different angle because we tried to make a martial arts film where we then added weapons, whereas John Wick had weapons and then sort of added martial arts. And even more towards the last episodes of the series. So yeah, I mean, they're gorgeous action movies and top-notch action movies, so if people want to compare them, that's fine with me.
For this moment, the filmmaker also expressed himself on his inspirations, notably taken from films where revenge is the key word.
One of my favorite directors is Park Chan-wook and his revenge trilogy, Old Boy, Lady Vengeance and Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance. This is how a modern revenge film should be made. These three films blew me away the first time I watched them and I was very much inspired.
We do not yet know when Boy Kills World will arrive in France, but the feature film is already available in the USA, a broadcast date in France should not be long.
