Essential Tips for Starting Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: What You Need to Know

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth not only builds on the established system from FF7 Remake, but also expands it. Below we give you 9 tips to make your trip a little easier.

Changes the camera setting

The camera setting is of course a personal preference, but it is recommended that you readjust the camera. Press the Options key -> System -> Settings -> Camera. There you set the camera distance (running and fighting) to 3. This moves the camera slightly away and gives you a better overview in combat and during your explorations. It is particularly helpful when fighting against multiple opponents, as it gives you a better overview of all your enemies.

Analyzes every opponent

Equip one of your team members with the Analysis Materia to find out enemy weak points. This not only allows you to see what is effective and what the enemy is resistant to, but also how you are making yourself vulnerable to shock.

Before starting each fight, press the touchpad to see if you have already analyzed the opponent. If he is not yet in your enemy database, use the “Analysis” skill. You only have to analyze the enemy once, after which the information is constantly available to you.

In each new region, immediately visit the Chocobo Farm

Since the Chocobos are tied to the respective region, you should always go directly to the Chocobo farm located there at the beginning of a new “Open Zone”. Here you will receive the side mission to unlock a new Chocobo. Without Chocobo you cannot explore a region 100%. In addition, fast travel in the respective region is only available to you once you have caught the chocobo type that lives there.

Combines materials

Since Final Fantasy 7 Remake was a while ago, a Small reminder: Materia can be combined. You can still equip equipment and weapons with Materia. It happens that the Materia slots are connected to each other.

Make sure that you use materials in connected slots that benefit or reinforce each other. If the combination matches each other, the connection lights up. If it is incompatible and does not favor each other, the bridge of the two slots will remain without light.

Learn weapon skills

The information can easily get lost in the flood of tutorials, but you should definitely learn the weapon skill of a weapon. At least the skills that favor your play style. Because a weapon skill learned is transferred to other weapons of the respective character.

If a weapon has worse stats but has a useful weapon skill, you should definitely learn it. Because once it is learned, you can continue to use it, even though you change the weapon again after learning it.

Important: By the way, the weapon skill levels up faster if you use it in combat. As soon as you have learned the skill, you will see, among other things, a yellow tick that is located to the left of the weapon in the menu.

Unlocks skills with elemental damage in the Codex

Through the new codex, which is introduced very early in the game, you can unlock knowledge cores (hubs) that provide you with different abilities. Be sure to unlock the skills that have elemental damage.

They allow you to exploit enemy elemental weaknesses without using magic. This means you can use magic attacks without wasting MP. Of course, the elemental damage is weaker than magic, but they help immensely in making an enemy vulnerable to shock. The higher your group level, the more knowledge cores (hubs) are available to unlock.

Switches active characters during combat

Playing the same character over and over again is easy. However, you should actively switch in combat, since the ATB bars recharge significantly faster when characters are actively controlled. This will also allow you to reach the requirements for the new synchro skills more quickly.

Use the new synthesis system (crafting)

Synthesis is the new system in the game that allows you to craft different things. If you craft items, you can not only save money, but you can also increase your synthesis level. The higher your level, the more crafting items are available to you.

However, you only receive the crafting experience points for an item when you first create an item. A green tick in the menu shows you that you have already crafted the item. But if you see a number there, it represents the XP received when it was first made. Even if you don't need something, craft it anyway if you haven't already. Because, as I said, the higher your synthesis level is, the more useful items are available to you in the crafting menu.

Additional tip: Go to the “Additional Settings” and set “Automatic collection of synthesis materials” to “On”. This will automatically collect crafting resources, which is pretty useful.

Increases your connection

For example, if you are in a city and see a speech bubble above your party members' heads, it means you can talk to them and thereby increase your bond. In addition, the bond increases when you use a synchro skill with the respective characters for the first time.

If you see a dot at the bottom left of the menu when selecting the Synchro skill, it means that you have not used the Synchro skill yet. The connection affects different video sequences in the game, so the feature is not an empty gimmick.
