More precisely spoke Keiichi Sato (“Inuyashiki Last Hero”) with the Japanese colleagues from February (via Comic book) about his goals for the dark anime series and what role western shows played in the implementation of the manga template of the same name. Among other things, he and his team wanted to capture the feeling of a Western anti-hero drama. “The Boys” was particularly the focus of the makers.

Antiheroes versus evil fighters of justice

Should “Go!” Go! Loser Ranger!” has passed you by so far, you can imagine the anime series as a deconstruction of the Power Rangers and similar superhero teams. The Divine Dragon Rangers may seem to have been protecting humanity for years, but in fact the alien attackers have long since conquered them defeated and enslaved them. Since then, only staged exhibition fights have taken place in order to retain the public's goodwill.

“The Boys” takes a similar approach with its bitterly evil look at classic superheroes, such as Homelander as a sinister version of Superman. Keiichi Sato stated in the interview that there are various anti-hero stories of this kind both in the West and in Japan. One of them is “Go! Go! Loser Ranger!”, in which a protagonist “from the evil side” would face a shining hero with a “hidden dark side”. Similar to “The Boys”.

Loser Ranger” had a similar vision. So when he makes an anime based on the manga hit “Go! Go! “Loser Ranger!”, the director’s stated goal was to “that the general tone resembles a foreign drama.”

“Go!” Go! Loser Ranger” is a manga series by author and illustrator Negi Haruba (“The Quintessential Quintuplets”), which has been published in the Weekly Shōnen Magazine by Kodansha Publishing (“Blue Lock”) since February 2021.
