The question that remains open so far is whether “Visions of Mana” is a pure single-player experience or whether we can expect a co-op mode. This question was asked in an interview with colleagues from PC gamers the producer responsible for the role-playing game, Masaru Oyamada.

In the interview, Oyamada emphasized that “the co-op mode of classics like Secret of Mana really stood out and left a strong impression.” Despite everything, we will have to do without a cooperative component when “Visions of Mana” launches this summer.

That spoke against the co-op mode

Accordingly, the team also thought about cooperative multiplayer for “Visions of Mana”, but ultimately decided against this feature. Oyamada said: “When we were proposing this game internally and discussing what it should be, we actually discussed whether we should include such a feature.”

“As things developed internally, we discussed the different things you could do in multiplayer. But also about some of the challenges that a multiplayer mode brings with it,” added the producer. “The presence of multiple players could also impact the overall layout of the pitch and the pace of the playing experience.”

“However, when I think about the series and look to the future, I really appreciate it and fondly remember being able to go on a single adventure with my friends and figure things out together,” Oyamada said of his experience with the “Mana.” Series.

Feature could be added after the release

However, we shouldn’t completely write off a possible co-op for “Visions of Mana”. As the producer of the role-playing game explained, there is definitely a possibility that this function will be added after the release. But nothing is ready to be decided in this regard.

“I know what this experience is like, and I would like to think about being able to implement such features in the future,” Oyamada continued.

It is still unclear when “Visions of Mana” will ultimately appear for the PC, PS4, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. Square Enix is still only talking about a planned release over the summer. In the latest “Mana” adventure we take on the role of the protagonist Val.

Val lives in a village that is visited every four years by fairies looking for so-called alms. In alms we are dealing with chosen ones who have been chosen to travel to the Tree of Mana, which oversees the vital flow of Mana in the world.

“But as night falls, the sky shines with sparkling lights and the fairy chooses it as her alpine pasture. With the blessings of his village, Val sets out on a journey to accompany his girlfriend to the Tree of Manas as a soul guardian,” says the official description further.
