Anyone who orders console games from Amazon will have to decide more quickly in the future whether they want to keep the goods: the return period is halved to 14 days.

Update from April 24, 2024: From tomorrow, Thursday at the latest, the following applies: Amazon orders in the categories camera, electronics, computers & accessories, office supplies, music CDs & vinyl, film & DVD or video games have a return period of 14 days – previously customers had four weeks. to exercise your right of withdrawal. The corresponding passage in the Amazon Terms and Conditions has already been adjusted.

Important: The period does not start when the order is sent, but rather when the goods are received.

In individual cases, marketplace traders can continue to grant a longer deadline on a voluntary basis. The specific period is shown directly below “Buy now”-Button for the keyword “Returns” displayed.

Of course, this does not affect the statutory two-year liability for material defects (“warranty”), which applies to damaged or defective items.

Report from March 11, 2024: “Amazon and commercial marketplace sellers at Amazon.de offer a 30-day return guarantee for most items.”

That's how it is still written on the Amazon.de website. But like the sender MIRROR has confirmed, these rules of the game will change after the end of the Easter business in some particularly high-sales categories. From April 25th (a Thursday), the return period for some product groups will be halved to the legally required period of 14 days from delivery. Within this window, goods ordered online can be returned without giving reasons.

The change particularly affects electronic media such as video games, music CDs, films on DVD and Blu-Ray, but also stationery and office supplies as well as consumer electronics and IT products, such as cameras, computers, televisions and game consoles.

Exceptions should apply to the Amazon Fire own brand (tablets, Fire TV stick) as well as refurbished used goods from the Amazon Renewed range. Marketplace retailers can also decide for themselves whether they allow longer returns in individual cases. Which deadline applies to which item is listed directly on the respective product page below the price.

Amazon is considered particularly service-oriented and accommodating in the market, because the ordered goods can usually be returned without lengthy discussions. Retail experts therefore assume that the group wants to further reduce the return rate with shorter deadlines. The deadline is particularly relevant for gift buyers, who now have very little leeway if a gift has to be returned or exchanged if they accidentally make a wrong or double purchase.

Since many competitors are based on the conditions of the market leader, this decision could also motivate other senders to apply stricter rules. At MediaMarkt, Saturn and Otto, the revocation must now take place within two weeks.

An official Amazon announcement with all the details is still pending. But the current conditions will still apply for at least the coming weeks – and therefore also for all orders planned for the Easter basket.
