Should you buy metro tickets before the start of the 2024 Olympics?

If your trips to Île-de-France are not frequent enough for a pass (Navigo monthly, annual, imagine'R or senior) to be worth purchasing, what should you do? How can we avoid the increase in transport tickets (metro tickets at €4 each and train tickets at €6) from July 20 to September 8, 2024?

Valérie Pécresse recommended that occasional travelers buy their transport ticket before July 20, either on an Easy card or on Liberté+, in order not to be affected by the increases. As a reminder :

  • A Navigo Easy pass is a non-nominative pass, rechargeable at the station or via smartphone. It costs €2 and can be supported by t+ tickets (allowing travel in Paris),
  • A Navigo Liberty + can be loaded onto a Navigo pass. Only journeys made (only in Paris) are invoiced, by a debit each month.

Previously, t+ tickets used on a Navigo Easy pass or with Navigo Liberté + were worth the same price, namely €1.69 each. However, this has evolved since Valérie Pécresse’s announcements. From now on :

  • The t+ ticket on a Navigo Easy pass is priced at €2.15 per unit. If the pass is loaded with a book of 10 tickets, it costs €17.35, or €1.73 per unit.
  • The journey with a Navigo Liberté+ pass is charged €1.73 per unitfor journeys in Paris.

Navigo Easy or Navigo Liberté +: which one to choose during the Paris Olympics?

If you plan to travel only within Paris, it seems more judicious to opt for the Navigo Liberté+ pass, in order to benefit from the most attractive rate, without making life too complicated.

Opting for a Navigo Easy pass seems a less effective solution. This requires stocking up on digital t+ tickets in advance. You should also consider buying them in packs of 10 to benefit from the cheapest price. In addition, there is a limit: a Navigo Easy pass cannot contain more than 30 t+ titles at the same time.
