Last year, even before the latest films of the DCEUwhich was the name given to the cinematic universe of D.C. bringing together the various projects since the Man of Steel by Zack Snyder, James Gunn introduced his plan for his own DCU who will make a clean slate of the past with the Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters. Note that the Elseworlds such as Joker: Folie à Deux will not be part of it. As a first feature film, some Superman Legacy was then announced, directed by James Gunn, and it is he who will open the ball in theaters. Since then, we have discovered its main cast, with headlining the young hunk David Corenswet. It was on February 29, 2024, on the occasion of the superhero's birthday, that the actor shared a photo showing the character's iconic crest which will appear on his new costume, with snow from filming in Norway, which had just started. The latter is also inspired by the illustrations ofAlex Rossin particular Kingdom Come. The project name also changed to simply Superman. Then, mid-April, a photo by James Gunn with David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, who will play Lois Laneshowed them reading comics, but without showing the build of its title role. The reveal of the costume Superman was therefore more than expected and just took place this Monday evening.

No doubt after seeing the first comments talking about AI-generated images (not easy to please everyone…), James Gunn clarified on Instagram that this photo was taken by Jessica Miglio and that it is therefore entirely “in-camera”. Obviously the background contains digital effects, with what any good fan of Dragon Ball will have been directly associated with a Dantesque confrontation between two saiyajin. Well, barring any surprises, it's probably not Vegeta with his Gyarikku Hō who will come and make a mess of Metropolisbut it's hard to say what enemy of comics could be at work here. The green aura could, however, suggest that the Green Lantern by Nathan Fillion, who will play Guy Gardnerwould be fighting.
Whatever happens, and despite the situation, this new Superman doesn't seem to be in any more of a hurry than that, finishing putting on the left boot of his suit. The latter might make some people say that the costume is a little too cosplay-like, but the whole thing seems much more down to earth and realistic than the outfit. kryptonian that Henry Cavill wore. You will obviously have to judge in motion and from different angles to get a good idea. You will also notice the burn marks covering his torso and armssigns of previous battles. And if you zoom in on the actor's belt, you will notice that he will indeed have his famous red underwear!
