There could be a big surprise for the 30th anniversary

It seems that “Resident Evil” remakes are far from over. The first part could also be brought onto the market in a new version for current consoles. And the alleged release year sounds plausible.

Capcom has been extremely successful with remakes of classic “Resident Evil” games. The remake of “Resident Evil 2” released in 2019 found more than 13.6 million buyers. The new version of “Resident Evil 3” followed in 2020. There have been 8.4 million buyers here so far. And the remake of “Resident Evil 4” released last year is already in 13th place among the best-selling Capcom games.

More games of this type will follow. There have been rumors about one for a while now newly developed version of “Resident Evil 5” through the rumor mill. But “Resident Evil 1” could also receive this treatment. Several insiders want to know about it.

Resident Evil 1 30th anniversary remake?

According to rumors, Capcom is working on a remake of “Resident Evil 1” that will be released in 2026. In this case, the release year would not be chosen randomly. Because it also marks the 30th anniversary of the survival horror series. The first game came onto the market in 1996 for the PlayStation. Versions for Saturn and Windows followed later.

So far, the remake of “Resident Evil 1” is just rumors and there is no official announcement. But entertainment reporter Daniel Richtman has the statements confirmedwhich was previously by PRE_Alarabiyaalso known as “Resident Evil Philosophers”.

The latter account claims that a remake of “Resident Evil 1” is in the works for 2026, while Richtman writes: “I also heard that a remake of Resident Evil 1 is in development.” Something seems to be brewing here.

It wouldn't be the first Resident Evil remake

“Resident Evil” brought survival horror to mainstream audiences almost 30 years ago, following the lead of “Alone in the Dark.” Capcom had already re-released the game as a remake for Nintendo's GameCube in 2002. In this process, the pre-rendered backgrounds were retained, but the graphics were greatly improved. At the same time, the Crimson Head zombie variants were introduced.

The GameCube version was re-released in 2015 for PS4, PS3, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC. Here a higher resolution and modernized controls found their way into the game. The supposedly upcoming current-gen remake is likely to focus on 4K resolution and 60 FPS, at least on the PS5 Prowhich will reportedly be released this year.
