The announcement that the trade fair would not take place this year came a few months after Acquisition of Activision-Blizzard by Microsoft. But what influence did the Redmond company have on the decision? An initial statement is available after criticism arose in the past few days.

The decision was up to Blizzard

In a statement obtained by Windows Central, a Blizzard Entertainment representative confirmed that the cancellation of BlizzCon 2024 was a decision by Blizzard, not Microsoft.

Blizzard felt that the timing for a single event this year was simply not right, even though there was a lot to share.

“This is a decision by Blizzard,” said the speaker. “We've explored different event formats in the past and this isn't the first time we've skipped BlizzCon or tried something new. While we have great things to say for 2024, the timing just isn’t right for a single event at the end of the year.”

Blizzard Entertainment plans to release “Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred” and “World of Warcraft: The War Within” later this year. These are extensions that should not be mixed with each other.

“Instead, we want to focus on highlighting individual games and their moments – Warcraft's multiple anniversaries, the upcoming releases of World of Warcraft: The War Within, and Diablo 4's first expansion, Vessel of Hatred, in particular,” it says Explanation continues.

Ultimately, there are “some exciting plans for further trade fairs and conventions”. And they will be introduced to players in the “near future”. Blizzard Entertainment will be represented at Gamescom, among others. The trade fair is holding its own despite the relocation of many events to the Internet Cancellation of important gaming companies. However, visitors have to dig even deeper into their pockets:

“Diablo 4: Vessel of Hatred” again was announced last November as part of BlizzCon.
