Vanguard: A drastic decision – Remedy provides status update on the co-op title

In an official statement, Remedy Entertainment admitted that the studio decided to cancel the co-op title announced under the code name “Vanguard”. The resources released as a result should flow into other projects.

As is known, the “Alan Wake” and “Control” makers from Remedy Entertainment have worked on several new projects in the past. Including a co-op shooter that the studio announced at the time under the code name “Vanguard”.

The co-op shooter was created in collaboration with the Chinese publisher Tencent and was rebooted in November. From then on, a small team continued to work on the project, which was given the working title “Kestrel” after the reboot. In a recent announcement, Remedy Entertainment admitted that “Vanguard” or “Kestrel” will no longer be released.

Instead, those responsible made the decision to stop work on the co-op shooter. Remedy Entertainment will distribute the staff made available as a result of this to other projects.

The studio's projects are making progress

CEO Tero Virtala commented on the decision to discontinue the co-op shooter and the current development at the Finnish studio as follows: “The project with the code name Kestrel showed early promising approaches, but was still in the early concept phase. Our other projects have developed well and are moving on to the next phases of development. A greater focus on this will benefit us.”

Virtala continued: “We can distribute talented developers from Kestrel to these other game projects. Many of our support functions will receive additional focus on their operations. This is another means of ensuring our gaming projects progress well.”

“I would like to thank our Kestrel development team. Although we decided to discontinue the project in favor of further benefits for Remedy, our team did a good job and provided us with valuable insights. I would also like to thank Tencent for their partnership so far. They were very professional and supportive,” added the Remedy CEO.

Remedy Entertainment pursues these goals

As part of its current business figures, the studio recently provided us with details about its future plans. On the one hand, those responsible pointed out that in the future, in the best case scenario, we would be overextended more regular successors or new offshoots can look forward to “Alan Wake” and “Control”.

In addition, Remedy Entertainment announced that “Project Condor” is now into full production started.
